Patriot Day – Did You Know?
Patriot Day is a US holiday to commemorate the lives of those who died in the 2001 terrorist attacks. US Congress decided on an annual day of remembrance that same year.
Interesting Facts:
- The national flag is to be flown at half-mast on all government buildings and homeowners are asked to display the flag on their homes.
- A moment of silence is to be held at 8:46 AM, as this marks when the first plane flew into the World Trade Center.
- Patriot Day can be confused with Patriots’ Day which is another holiday that recognizes the American soldiers who died while fighting
in the Battles of Lexington and Concord. - President Barack Obama expanded the holiday to Patriot Day and National Day of Service and Remembrance in 2009.
