Juneteenth

We want to recognize the importance of today – Juneteenth, or Emancipation Day – the oldest national celebration of the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865, Union Soldiers landed in Galveston, TX with the news that the enslaved were now free – two and a half years after Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation as there were few Union Soldiers in TX to enforce the Executive Order.

This holiday has been celebrated since then and for generations by the African American community and is becoming more widely celebrated this year amidst protests and uprisings in every state across the country as people cry out for social justice and equality. Congress is working on introducing a bill to make it a national holiday.  Unfortunately, most people didn’t learn about Juneteenth, the Tulsa Massacre of 1921 or the Rosewood Massacre of 1923 as a part of American History in school. We encourage each of you reading this to spend time researching and learning about these important events in our nation’s history.

At Hahn Mason, we are working to increase diversity and ensure our company is a welcoming environment for all employees. We can do better and are focused on creating a vibrant workplace because of its diversity and a place where all employees thrive.

HMI Update – June 1, 2020

Hahn Mason will be “re-opening” the local offices on June 01, 2020. We have all had to make significant behavioral changes to reduce the spread of COVID-19. Those efforts must to continue! Good hygiene is a cornerstone for minimizing the risk of infectious diseases.  In addition to the local branch plans developed by the Branch Managers, the following guidelines have been established:

• Working from an office is a matter of personal choice.  HMI employees have the ability to work remote, as applicable

• Social distancing (specifically, staying 6 feet away from others when you must go into a shared space)

• The warehouse will continue to not allow customers in the building and service customers from the door/vehicles. We anticipate loosening this restriction in Phase 3 of the State of North Carolina’s Re-opening Guidance.

• The continued use of virtual and/or collaboration tools

• Frequently washing hands or use alcohol-based (at least 60% alcohol) hand sanitizer when soap and water are not available

• Wearing cloth (or other) face coverings, as applicable

• Avoiding touching eyes, nose, and mouth

• Staying home when sick, or if symptoms present

• Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces

• All visitors will be provided a mask and gloves as needed

It is important to continue to follow federal, state, tribal, territorial, and local guidance for reopening businesses and America. By following these practices, we can help flatten the curve and hopefully limit the spread of COVID-19.

Memorial Day – May 25, 2020

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2020 occurs on Monday, May 25. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings, and participating in parades. Today our reality has changed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we may not be able to do some of the things that we have done in the past.  Nevertheless, it does not change our appreciation and remembrance of those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Hahn Mason is closed on Monday May 25, 2020.
